Item # HL416 As were many of the Southern lights, the original lighthouse at St. Simons was destroyed during the Civil War, in an effort to keep it from the Union forces. After the war, a new 100 foot tower was erected and put into service in 1872, employing a 3rd order Fresnel lens.
