| Item # 40044 The singing of kolyadki, Russian Christmas carols, is one of the oldest of all Russian traditions. The custom dates back to medieval times. Young and old alike bundled up against the cold and tromped through the streets of Moscow singing the kolyadki. Christmas trees were popular in Russia during the 1800's. Most decorations were too expensive to buy so people made their own. Apples, tangerines and little dolls made of dried fruit and candy were but a few ornaments that families would make for their trees. Hand painted using up to 20 colors to capture the detail. Made in Poland. |
