The perch is a spiny finned freshwater fish related to both sunfish and sea bass. Most popular with ice fishermen is the yellow perch, which thrives in lakes and large streams. The yellow perch's coloration blends both olive green and golden yellow and it features separated dorsal fins. Perch grows up to a length of 12 inches and can weigh from one to three pounds.
