| Item # PLH27Lit in 1855, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse was the highest in the U.S. at 462 feet. One of the first 8 West Coast lighthouses built by Kelly and Gibbons, it was designed in the Cape Cod style by Ammi Young of the Treasury Dept. During its36 years of service, the third-order Fresnel lens was visible up to 40 miles. Low clouds frequently obscured the light, which led to the construction of a replacement at sea level in 1891. Abandoned, in 1933 it was restored to become part of Cabrillo National Monument. Limited Edition of 4,000. |
