| Item # NTK04Built in 1774, Old North Wharf is one of Nantucket's oldest sites. It is the only one of five wharves that is residential. In the background the familiar gold-domed steeple of the Unitarian Church or South Tower can be seen. Built in 1809, this is Nantucket's oldest church. Since 1820, Nantucket's five wharves have been devoted to whaling and to various commercial operations such as lumber, coal, and ice storage. |
