Matinicus Rock, ME

Item # HL173 Harbour Lights has dedicated this piece to the faithful lightkeeper Abbie Burgess Grant, who served at Matinicus Rock until 1890. The still operational Maine lighthouse is now a research headquarters for Audubon biologists. Built on rock miles from mainland, this lighthouse has two towers. Rebuilt in granite, only one tower remained with a light. Keeper's house set high on stone blocks to protect it from the severity of the weather and the water. Retired in December 1999.
